Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. Merchants usually have to wait up to sixty days to receive cash after a credit card payment. Additionally, credit card payments are reversible. Thus, selling bitcoins for credit card payments is very risky due to fraud.
Yobit is popular within the English, Russian, and Chinese speaking crypto trader community. The website currently receives 10 million monthly visits. Nearly every single coin in existence is listed on Yobit. Some see such expansive listings as a disadvantage, while others enjoy being able to buy early before other exchange potentially list a coin.

The ‘Winklvii’ are working with regulators to make their product a leader in conforming to banking and legal legislation. Primarily a US-based exchange, it still does not retain the same market cap as the top echelons but worldwide expansion looks set to change this through 2018. Fees are in line with market averages the only downside is minimal currency flexibility. Just bitcoin and ether on offer here.
Hi. I have been trying for months to purchase bitcoin but regardless of the sites or exchange I used, either did not service my area or I could not pass verification. I now believe that verification was not the problem, but my financial institutions. My last attempt was at Changelly. In this attempt, I made 3 attempts to make a purchase. 1st with my Chase credit card, 2nd with my Community Bank Debit card and 3rd with a Prepaid Walmart credit card, managed by Green Dot. These transactions tend to go thru Simplex and were all denied. I then called… Read more »
Buying bitcoin with cash allows you to keep your identity off the records. Many people prefer to buy bitcoin anonymously, while others simply like to meetup in person and engage in some digital currency related conversation. When buying with cash this is all possible.
Perhaps you’re not interested in saving or trading cryptocurrencies; you want to be an active part of the ecosystem. Things get a bit complicated here, as each cryptocurrency is different. With Bitcoin, you can buy stuff at numerous online (and even some offline) stores. Overstock, Steam, and Microsoft all accept Bitcoin in some capacity.
Litecoin followed in 2011. Created by Charles Lee, an engineer who later helped build Coinbase, the leading cryptocurrency exchange, Litecoin is based on the same code as bitcoin but with a few tweaks designed to address two of its predecessor’s limitations: transaction speed and access to the mining process.
Thanks for this, so my story: I’m new and have been using Coinbase then suddenly was told I need to verify ID to continue buying. I’ve tried several times but have been unsuccessful, most likely because I recently moved from California to New Mexico. And as everyone knows their customer service is virtually non existent. So I’ve been trying to sign up with several other exchanges but keep getting told they don’t do business in New Mexico. I guess I’ll just keep trying exchanges until I don’t get rejected…unless you know of ones that do business in New Mexico.
searching for a good crypto exchange (wallets included) to trade altcoins. important for me: lot of tradeable altcoins, buyable altcoins with other altcoins, low fees, withdraw & user friendly interface.. any suggestions? thanks in advance
For newcomers, this sort of approach is impractical, as most retailers that accept BTC also accept regular old cash, so converting your money to BTC just to buy something doesn’t make much sense. But there are use cases for spending BTC in stores. Say you bought bitcoin a few years ago—you could be a millionaire right now, and you might want to spent some of that money. You can also send BTC to another user without an intermediary (this is what makes BTC great).
One element to keep in mind when scanning for the next superstar is the price of the token. For the average investor who doesn’t have a great deal of money to put into the cryptocurrency space, low-priced currencies may offer the best bang for your buck.
Lowest fees are probably on LocalBitcoins because you’re buying directly from other people and the site doesn’t take much, per trade. Using LocalBitcoins maybe requires a tad more technical know-how but the site is good and reliable and guides you through the process of signing up and initiating a trade nicely.
Only one legal identification document is frequently needed in Coinmama unlike with Bitcoin Exchange, Trading BTC USD, BTC EUR – CEX.IO that needs three as well as photo of oneself while holding an applicable document. The process obviously is very unpleasant to some people who would want to maintain privacy or preserve anonymity. Therefore, the process of verification in Coinmama is a bit easier to handle.
But Coinbase isn’t without its drawbacks. For one thing, you don’t have access to your private cryptographic keys—in other words, you don’t actually control the cryptocurrency you have on Coinbase so much as you give it to Coinbase for safekeeping. Coinbase also charges some fairly big fees on transactions. Finally, there’s a pretty long list of complaints on various crypto-related forums about Coinbase freezing customers’ funds for dubious reasons.
Login to your account and click “Buy” in the top menu bar. You will now see a page like below. Select “Visa/Mastercard” since you want to buy with your credit or debit card. Also, enter the amount of euro you want to spend or amount of BTC you want to buy:
Most wallets will create a new address for you, and you can send your BTC or ETH to that address. A small fee will be deducted and you’re now in control of your funds. Again, this comes with certain risks. You could forget your password. You could get hacked. You could lose your smartphone (which is why you should always generate and keep a backup phrase somewhere if you have a mobile wallet).
The cryptocurrency exchange with over 700,000 customers on board aims to eliminate the technical barriers of traditional trading platforms by using an automatic trading robot that integrates Bittrex, Poloniex, and other leading trading platforms. Basically, it allows traders to trade virtual currency without needing verification or registering at any cryptocurrency exchange. Changelly asks exchanges to suggest the best rates available on trading pairs and operates by making bids. It processes more than 50,000 BTC on a monthly basis and offers seamless and instant conversion of 80+ tokens and altcoins. Definitely an exchange I would recommend to those who are looking for a simple process, for more information check out our thorough review
For investors looking to get their hands on what may prove to be the next hot cryptocurrency investment (or not), sorting through the security, regulatory, and vetting challenges can be daunting. With its funds, Grayscale aims to provide access to certain crypto assets—many of which have soared to spectacular, speculative heights in recent months—to wealthy individuals (that is, accredited investors, or people who have made $200,000 annually for the two most recent years or who have a net worth exceeding $1 million).
Bitstamp are big in Europe and, since 2011, have moved from Slovenia, and the United Kingdom in search of sound regulatory environments. Good volumes are available for larger trades. Well received by people using SEPA and credit cards. Both euro and US dollar deposits are accepted. I like Bitstamp because they really focus on being a pure bitcoin-only exchange (update: since 2017 Bitstamp have started adding popular cryptocoins). Please read my Bitstamp critique for analysis of factors such as security, fees, and the history.
Solely a bitcoin exchange the platform is aiming to become the “most trusted, secure and reliable exchange”. Users can buy, sell and store bitcoin with service including the use of wallet and mobile features. The one downside is the fees, which can be a little tricky to work out for new buyers. Overall, it is a solid well run service.
This collective, distributed computing network, called the “Ethereum Virtual Machine,” can be, in a sense, rented out. Participants who consume computing power pay for it with tokens, called Ether; those who contribute processing power can earn them. Of course, buyers and sellers can simply trade Ether independently of these activities.
A popular site for buying bitcoin or ether from those far-out tricky countries that are not accepted by the larger exchanges. Note that users cannot sell back to the site – only buy. There’s much more detail in my inspection of Coinmama which I encourage you to read.
Summary: 247Exchange is a veteran player in the Bitcoin ecosystem which allows you to buy Bitcoins with a credit card in a simple and secure manner. Unfortunately their buying process still has a few glitches and the verification process can take quite some time. I recently reviewed the service hands on, you can read about it here.
Hi there, I assume from your mentions of Walmart and Chase that you’re an American citizen. I have no idea why your payment method of choice, i.e., credit / debit cards, is failing. If you’re set on using this method (it is more expensive than most other methods but usually more convenient, although this certainly doesn’t seem to be the case for you), then I’d suggest you try try CoinMama.com. The quickest and easiest method will likely prove to be a cash purchase. For full details, check out my guide on buying Bitcoin with cash (briefly stated, your options are… Read more »
Bitcoin remains the most visible and frequently traded cryptocurrency. After a remarkable surge in November 2017, it crested at just shy of $20,000 in late December 2017, and after settling in around $15,000 for a few weeks, shed another 50 percent of its value after South Korean regulators publicly mulled banning trading. The price of Litecoin, sometimes referred to as the “silver” to bitcoin’s “gold,” followed a valuation trend similar to bitcoin and now sits at around $160. Though all three have increased in value during the past 12 months, Ethereum has charted its own distinct path, spiking in June 2017 and surpassing $1,000 in early January 2018.
You will find that it is all about finding a vendor that is ready to trade with you. Yes, it is true that other sites offer an easier process, but where else can you exchange virtually anything for the most popular cryptocurrency in existence? Check out Paxful’s instructions and read up the FAQ. I do prefer LocalBitcoins to Paxful – especially so now the former accepts PayPal.
Coinbase’s support for bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum — as well as Bitcoin Cash, a new branch of the bitcoin blockchain created in August 2017 — helped install and keep them among the most visible and well-capitalized cryptocurrencies. Rounding out the top 10, in terms of market capitalization, is a dynamic shortlist that has included established coins and upstarts like Ripple, Cardano, Neo, Stellar, Eos and IOTA.
Aside from bitcoin, there are many more cryptocurrencies out there. In fact there are thousands of popular “altcoins” (alternative coins) that are traded every second, round the clock. Below I’ve listed two of the most popular exchanges for trading cryptocurrencies. Do please note that you can only deposit BTC (and other non-fiat coins) onto these sites.
maybe Mike could talk about Bisq decentralized bitcoin/altcoin exchange because that’s the best one right now. There’s also Etherdelta which in completely p2p and decentral but it’s only for trading the Ethereum IRC20 tokens, not bitcoin.
However, the volatility is a risk you need to take if you’re interested in trading. Day traders, who typically buy and sell many times during one day, have various way of mitigating risk, including never leaving an open position and using stop-loss orders. It’s very much not recommended to try to guess the market’s sentiment in very short time frames, as it’s extremely hard to do unless you’re an expert.
I use bitcoin.de which still isn’t mentioned here. For small transactions, the bid/ask spread is smaller than most other sites, and the fees are lower (0.5%). They accept SEPA transfers too (which are zero cost). For people living in Europe, this is probably the top choice, which makes me wonder why these reviews omit it. Admittedly, it probably isn’t the top choice for US residents unless they can use a European bank account, but there are plenty of buyers/sellers in Europe.
Once you’ve done that, you’ll need to send some funds. On Coinbase and Kraken, the easiest way to do that is to follow the instructions on how to transfer the money from your bank account. In most cases, it’ll just be a standard wire transfer, and you can probably get help at your bank if you’re unsure what to do.
