In early August 2012, a lawsuit was filed in San Francisco court against Bitcoinica — a bitcoin trading venue — claiming about US$460,000 from the company. Bitcoinica was hacked twice in 2012, which led to allegations that the venue neglected the safety of customers’ money and cheated them out of withdrawal requests.[195][196]

The Economist, a globally popular British publication focused on economic liberalism, made it’s article “The Trust Machine” the featured cover story of it’s weekly print edition. The article focused mainly on the utility of blockchain technology, promoting the idea that banks and government institutions may implement their own blockchains to create “cheap, tamper-proof public databases”.
The ban will also apply to advertisements relating to Bitcoin and other virtual currencies. Although China banned ICOs and shut down domestic exchanges, wallet holders have bypassed the security and accessed foreign services from within the country.
Bitcoin was scheduled to upgrade around Nov. 16 following a proposal called SegWit2x, which would have split the digital currency in two. According to the regulations, digital currency companies that serve NY customers must apply for a “BitLicense” within 45 days or be considered in “breach of the law”. After a month-long jury trial that ended in Ulbricht’s conviction, Judge Katherine Forrest sentenced Ulbricht to life in prison without parole. Ulbricht had been found guilty on 7 charges of money laundering, computer hacking, and conspiracy to traffic narcotics in February due to his role as the operator of the Silk Road marketplace (a.k.a “Dread Pirate Roberts”). In a letter to Judge Katherine Forrest prior to his sentencing, Ulbricht admitted to running the Silk Road and made a plea for leniency. The judge’s sentencing statement hinted that the harshness of the sentence was to make an example of Ulbricht: members of the public considering following in his footsteps should know “that if you break the law this way, there will be very serious consequences.”
Travis Iles ,securities commissioner, who issued the latest order from Texas on Friday, said that DavorCoin was violating sections of the Texas Securities Act by offering securities for sale and misleading the public.
