Using Ethereum, you can create a contract that will hold a contributor's money until any given date or goal is reached. Depending on the outcome, the funds will either be released to the project owners or safely returned back to the contributors. All of this is possible without requiring a centralized arbitrator, clearinghouse or having to trust anyone.
If you are on a private network (and if you just want to test the technology for free, you should) then any normal computer with a normal CPU will be able to run the network and earn test ether (ether that is only redeemable on the test network where it was generated) through mining. This is the best choice for small-scale network or testing privately, as it's less resource intensive. On the real (or live test) network a normal desktop (or laptop) computer might take a very long time to successfully mine a block and receive ether.

The digital gold has indeed swept a large section of global traders and investors towards its mouth-watering — and risky — volatility. “It’s a pretty cool idea to be able to plug a device into the wall that makes money for you while you sleep. As a purely economic proposition, you’d have to balance the cost of power and the hardware device itself with the cost of the coin or token that you’d be mining. There are so many assets now that there is probably always an arbitrage somewhere,” he said.

The development for the WildRig Multi AMD GPU miner continues with the latest 0.12.9 Beta bringing some more performance improvements for various supported algorithms on the table. It fixes the hashrate drops observed with X22i and adds performance improvements for that algorithm up to about 10% compared tot he 0.12.8 release that also brought some speed improvements for all algorithms. There is also a slight boost in performance for the X16r, X16s and X17 algorithms in the latest update.

Coinbase is probably the easiest and safest way to purchase bitcoins in the U.S. Unlike BitStamp, Coinbase is not an exchange. They act as a counter-party to all customer trades, you buy or sell your bitcoins directly to Coinbase. The buy/sell fee is 1% on top of the buy/sell spread. The bid/ask is usually close to BitStamp where the firm gets its liquidity from. For example, the current bid is at $635.48 and the current ask is $638.07. In addition to this, the firm has daily limits on the amount of bitcoins bought/sold. These limits are not applied on the individual level. Basically Coinbase has a set amount of bitcoins that it is willing to buy or sell every day. But, once again, be warned. Just because it's a digital currency doesn't mean you won't lose real cash money trading in it. And given that the current Bitcoin market is more volatile than a bag of plutonium nitrate, multi-explosive, sound seeking projectiles, you stand a very good chance to lose a lot of money, especially if this is your first foray into day trading. So unless you have cash to burn or you're already a grizzled day trading veteran, you might want to take one more look at mining after all.
Hey, where’s Bitsane here? I guess you would like to add it to the list, don’t you mind? I am not an expert to state the pros and cons but I can share some personal opinion. You can get confused there sometimes cause me for instance - I can’t get all that rules and f.a.q.s and special info to know that youngsters get on with easily. But what I am relieved with is the rate of low costs of fees for transactions to put your money in and out (for I can’t stand that crazy part of giving a shitty load of money from your own pocket to the user fees god-knows-what-for). And there are also pretty quick to get through, which is suitable in urgent cases that occur currently. So, here is the exchange I strongly recommend to include in the list. Please consider.

This could be 2 steps, or it could be 1000 steps. Once established in the ‘smart contract’, if it is indeed >10c tomorrow, the contract automatically shifts 25 ETH to your account and ships me my widget. The results are recorded in the blockchain.
Regardless of whether or not you made a successful trade, there’s always a lesson to be learned. No one manages to only make profitable trades, and no one gets to the point of making money without losing some money on the way. The important thing isn’t necessarily whether or not you made money. The Mid-Columbia Basin isn’t the only location where the virtual realm of cryptocurrency is colliding with the real world of megawatts and real estate.
